How to Make a 3D Printed Keychain From an Image (Using MakerWorld’s MakerLab!)

Ever wanted to turn your own art or favorite design into a 3D printed keychain? Good news, it’s way easier than you think. 🙌

In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through how I used MakerWorld’s MakerLab “Image to Keychain” tool, along with Canva and a simple SVG converter, to bring custom designs to life, no advanced modeling skills required.

What You’ll Need:

Step 1: Create Your Image in Canva

Head to Canva and create a square canvas (I usually do 2000x2000px). Then design your image, or copy and paste an image you already have!

Here are some addtional ideas:

  • A bold silhouette

  • Your logo or initials

  • A cute character

  • A holiday icon (like pumpkins or ghosts!)

Tips:

  • Use a high-contrast image — no thin lines, shadows or super fine details.

  • Keep it simple and centered.

  • Download it as a transparent PNG.

Step 2: Convert PNG to SVG

Go to PNGtoSVG.com and upload your image. This turns your flat PNG into an SVG; a vector file that MakerLab can read.

Once it converts:

  • Make sure you have the correct number of colors for your print! I keep mine to 4 or less!

  • Download the SVG file to your computer.

  • Don’t worry about editing it. MakerWorld will do the rest!

Step 3: Use MakerLab’s Image to Keychain Tool

Now comes the fun part!

Head to MakerLab’s Image to Keychain tool.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Upload your SVG file.

  2. Make sure it's the right file, and toggle off 'Keep Background".

  3. Resize or adjust your image. Make sure you have the correct colors for your image!

  4. Customize thickness, backing and hook or hole placement.

  5. Preview your final keychain — and then export the 3MF file!
